Practice Schedules

The Marlins Swim Club is a professionally coached organization whose first commitment is to the development of the swimmers in the program. We have strived to develop a program that meets the needs and desires of any athlete from brand new novices of any age to regional and national qualifiers. The Marlins participate in USA Swimming on the local, regional, state and national levels as a year round team.

M&M Group: This group is for novice swimmers new to competitive swimming who can swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke. Emphasis at this level is on having fun while learning the competitive strokes. The primary age group is 5-7 years old. The M&M group is a low cost low commitment program. Two practices are offered per week. There is no minimum attendance requirement.

Gold Group: This group is for novice swimmers new to competitive swimming who can swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke, also for less experienced returning team members, and for swimmers ages 8 and under. Emphasis at this level is on having fun while learning the competitive strokes. The primary age group is 7 - 12 years old. The Gold group is a low cost low commitment program. Three practices are offered per week. There is no minimum attendance requirement.

Age Group 1: This group is made up of athletes who are at least 8 years old and have demonstrated basic knowledge of all four competitive strokes by swimming a legal 100-yard IM. These swimmers also have a beginning knowledge of all starts and turns. The goals of this group are to improve stroke and racing skills, and develop better swim conditioning. The primary age group is 8 - 10 years old.

In order to show continued improvement and progress toward the next practice group, swimmers should attend at least 2 - 3 practices per week.

Age Group 2: Members of this group have mastered strokes, turns, and starts in all four strokes and are capable of swimming a 200-yard IM in under 3 minutes and 30 seconds. The focus of this group will be on continued stroke improvement, race strategy, and proper training techniques. The primary age group is 10 - 14 years old. Recommended minimum attendance is 2 - 3 practices per week.

Age Group 3: This group is for those swimmers in grades six through eight who have demonstrated commitment to the sport by working hard and attending all practices. These swimmers and their parents are required to sign a contract indicating that they understand the expectations of the group. The excellence program will help prepare swimmers for advanced swimming.

Senior 1: This group is for swimmers in grades nine through twelve who enjoy the sport of competitive swimming, but do not want to commit to, or are not yet ready for, the demands of Senior Group II. The main focus is to provide a conditioning and skill development program structured towards the high school swimmer.

Advanced Swimming

Pre-Senior: When swimmers work into the Pre-Senior group they know that if they work hard they will get the best results from their efforts. To be asked into the Pre-Senior group, a swimmer must have demonstrated a commitment to the sport of swimming, and have the approval of the Head Age Group Coach. The primary age group is usually 12- 14 years or grades six through eight. Swimmers are required to attend 100% of the available practices with few exceptions.

Senior 2: To be in this group means that a swimmer has set a goal to achieve the best results from his or her efforts - that of swimming fast and possibly attaining a swimming scholarship for college. These swimmers by now should have reached the point where they decide how much time and effort they really want to put into swimming.

To be asked into the Senior II program, a swimmer must be at least 14 years old, be able to complete 5 x 100 on 1:20, have a strong commitment to competitive swimming, and the Head Coach's approval. Swimmers are required to attend 100% of the available practices with few exceptions.
